In anticipation of the nationwide celebration of that event, which will commence in January, The Ventura County Star dispatched senior reporter John Krist last year to retrace the explorers' route and examine how the West has changed since they first described it. This yearlong project describes what he learned during his three-month journey by road, river and trail. The project will be published in 12 monthly installments as we follow Krist's journey.
